I Am. Ralph’s collection was the only menswear designer showing at the Brighton Frocks show. Skateboarding down the catwalk the models were dressed head to toe in bold primary colours with matching geometric shapes. The entire collection contained elements fresh out of the playground – men not ready to dress like their Fathers.
PVC tracksuits in bright reds and purples, Superhero capes and Canvas coats with large triangle exterior pockets turned the models into the heroes from a Nintendo game. The Tracksuits and colours reminded me of the Power Rangers, whilst a multifunctional jacket that turned into a backpack felt like when Super Mario transformed his powers with a change of his hat.
The collection was fun, which is a word that can be easily forgotten in all designs – especially Menswear, with a common belief that when you reach a certain age you should grow up. A series of designs for the fashion conscious man who wants to know what he should wear whilst playing on his Wii.
