BFW: Secret Apple Yard

‘Charged Up’

Electrical wiring, short black dresses, spinal cords formed from light fixtures and white jumpsuits all formed the Secret Apple Yards collection. Almost bionic in styling the models seemed robotic, particularly with one design which had neon pink lighting exploding from the models neck.

The collection was more of a theatrical art piece rather than fashion. With focus on the light fittings attached to the garments and the models mechanical dancing, the garments became invisible. This is in stark contrast to previous usage of lighting in fashion from the likes of Viktor & Rolf and Gareth Pugh who manage to create a balance between technology and fashion. The Secret Apple Yard however unfortunately overplayed technological advancement and in doing so sacrificed their designs.
