Having been initially fearful that the deluge of rain would scare off any attempt at fashion status, we were pleasantly surprised by the effort made at this year’s Glasto festival. With our focus on the vintage pin ups trudging through the fields, it was clear was that whilst the time honoured Hunter/hot pants combo was still going strong, there was a new wave of all things pretty and ditsy and we just loved it. Here is a quick look at what you were wearing, what the celebs were rocking and how you can secure some serious festival fashion snaps for those still lucky enough to have more outdoor raving to look forward to this summer.
Not the hair kind but pretty much everything else was sporting a funky fringe this Glasto. This is a really easy trend to rock as you can choose how far you take it. Most worn was the fringed T-shirt usually in a retro print as modelled here by Diana Vickers at the Isle of Wight festival. How short does it have to be? Well, that’s the beauty of this look – if you happen to have a rock star’s six pack then crop till you drop. If, like most of us, you have over done it on Square Pies and Cider, try altering a t-shirt dress or longer vest for a safer option. If you would prefer to accessorise then do it with your bag, slung over your shoulder and worn low; or grab yourself some fringed boots for a Pocahontas 70s inspired vibe.
The Floral Print
We know we were in the countryside but there were a disproportionate number of flowers to be seen over the weekend mainly taking the form of short and cute ditsy floral print playsuits and teenie tiny tea-dresses. When the sun came out these items came into their own looking bright, beautiful and one of the easiest options for packing too! Accessories were key and included rope inspired pleated belts and stacks of wooden bangles – all very boho-chic and au-naturale.
Continuing the floral theme, hair pieces were a must and the options seemed endless. Coming out in front were seventies inspired garlands of flowers, flower clips and hairbands, fifties silk floral print head scarves and the trusty cotton crochet headband. Perfect for hiding three day old hair which, quite frankly, no one wants to see.
New Festival Trend Alert
Never one to let us down, Alexa Chung rocked some serious outfits this year. We give serious cred to the fact that she teamed some super classic vintage pearls with her trademark Barbour and new kids on the block Superga wellies. It is a great look contrasting contemporary trends with total fifties Hollywood glamour. We are so going to be stealing this look for our next festival, not least because it proves our long-standing theory that pearls have a place on any outfit!
In The Lap of the Gods
Yes, we did mean the weather and it seems that people were offering up their own prayers to the sun gods this festival as the tents were full of Buddahs, Fatima Hands and crucifixes. This is a kooky way to add interest to your dancing outfits and to change your day time look into night time hippy-luxe glimmer.
