Inspired by the previous use of Somerset House itself as a registry office, New Power Studio installed amongst the hidden function room a collection entitled, ‘Birth, Death, Marriage.’ It’s a heavy threesome to cover in one room and one collection, yet New Power Studio had given it their best shot by turning the room into a space of chaos and absurdity.

Upon entering the space a wedding took place with two grooms, two pale angelic flower girls in roller-skates and one pregnant bride, whose silk frilled dress was teamed with a paper bagged head. Opposite the wedding four men sitting amongst a flurry of paper and cardboard played connect four in dark toned shorts and t-shirts, whilst looking on at the final subject of death, consisting of a double suicide, of two men lying together with long flowing hair and white sunglasses.

This showcase of pivotal moments in life blurred the line between fashion and art and although I firmly believe that fashion is always about creating magic through fabric, the visual disorder of darkness, cardboard, board games, and paper bagged brides, stopped you from seeing the one thing that the collection should have been about, the clothing.
