Early Bird Catches the Festival: 2012’s summer preview

The festival season is still quite a way away, but with more and more line ups being revealed each day, we thought we’d do our bit and capture some of the best ones happening this year, with reasons why we think you should get your tickets pronto.

Glade Electronic Arts Festival
When: 14, 15, 16, 17 June
Where:  Houghton Hall, Kings Lynn, Norfolk
Tickets: £135 + BF

Why: Described as a kind of ‘electric eden’ set in the beautiful grounds of Houghton Hall where you can party until dawn with no noise restrictions, without a care in the world.

Stephan Bodzin and Oliver Huntemann are among the latest acts confirmed for the Glade Festival 2012 line-up.

Stanton Warriors, System 7, The Correspondents and Lewah will also appear on the Glade Stage, joining the likes of headliners Sven Vath, Andy C: Alive and Vitalic.

They join the likes of Rusko, Foreign Beggars, Toddla T and MC Serocee, Pretty Lights, Marc Romboy, Extrawelt, Tricka Technology, Gaudi and Dub Pistols, who were announced previously.

Dot to Dot Festival
When & Where:
Bristol: Saturday 2nd June 2012
Nottingham: Sunday 3rd June 2012
Manchester: Monday 4th June 2012

Why: Dot To Dot, the UKs only tri-city traveling festival returns for 2012 announcing its first salvo of must-see artists. Renowned in its seven year history for offering guaranteed crowd-pleasing bands alongside the first live glimpses of some of today’s biggest acts

Camp Bestival
When: 26,27,28,29 June
Where: Lulworth Castle, Dorset
Tickets: Start from £95

Why: Latest news from Camp Bestival: Happy Mondays will be headlining Sunday night; Dodgy, Little Roy, Redlight, Josh Kumra, Ryan Keen and Jenny O join the live line-up; Mr Scruff, The 2 Bears, DJ Derek, Maya Jane Coles, Gemini & more joining the DJs; the legendary Dick and Dom are back for a second year.

End of Road Festival
When: 31 August – 2 September
Where: Larmer Tree Gardens, Dorset
Tickets: £150

Why: The End of the Road Festival is today pleased to announce a further sixteen acts for 2012 including Anna Calvi,  playing her only outdoor weekend festival in England this summer, Dark Dark Dark, Perfume Genius and The Villagers. They join a lineup featuring Grizzly Bear, Midlake, Beach House and Tindersticks, as well as The Low Anthem, Roy Harper, John Grant, The Antlers, First Aid Kit and many more.

When: 6,7,8,9 September
Where: Robin Hill Country Park, Isle of Wight
Tickets: £170 for early bird rate

Why: Possibly one of our favourite festivals here at Spindle magazine, not only because of its setting and woodland area but also because of the fact it still manages to feel fairly intimate yet pulls in one of the most impressive line ups, across all the festivals.

New Order announced as Saturday headliners for Bestival 2012 plus Friendly Fires, Death In Vegas, Django Django, Daughter, Drums of Death and more live acts & DJs added to the line-up. Also Brainfeeder presents Thundercat, The Gaslamp Killer, Teebs & more from the LA beats stable plus details on the new Ampitheatre Stage and info on Around The Woods (with the David Lynch Foundation and Gideon Reeling). Plus a festival exclusive from The xx, and Sigur Rós as well as some amazing additions such as Justice, Azealia Banks and Michael Kiwanuka

When: 8, 9, 10 June
Where:  Loch Ness, Scotland
Tickets: £159

Why: First acts announced for RockNess 2012 with Mumford & Sons, Biffy Clyro, Deadmau5, Ed Sheeran, Justice and many more heading to the Scottish Highlands from 8th to 10th June. This year there’s going to be a new way of getting to RockNess for festivalgoers around the UK: The RockNess Express is a specially chartered train departing London picking up festivalgoers in Birmingham, Derby, York and Newcastle before arriving in Inverness where they’ll get priority access to the festival site before anyone else arrives.

Other acts confirmed include Azealia Banks, Noah and the Whale, Wretch 32, The Cuban Brothers, Metronomy, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers…this festival is becoming a strong contender, for this year’s must attend festival.

Secret Garden Party
When: 19, 20, 21, 22 July
Where: Huntingdon, Cambs
Tickets: £137.50 plus BF

Why: Celebrating its 10th birthday and offering all festivalgoers an extra day of shenanigans, yippee! This year’s Secret Garden Festival promises to be bigger and better… which the fancy dress theme being ‘standing on ceremony’.

The line up so far includes KT Tunstall, Orbital, King Charles, Little Roy, Casio Kids plus many more more.  But as we all know Secret Garden Party isn’t just about the music.. it’s about the whole experience of dressing up, the festival fireworks and burning ceremony on the Saturday night, the boat rides on the lake and the numerous action camps as well as the scrumptious food on offer.

As well as wonderful festivals happening in the UK, we must not forget the wonderful festivals across Europe, which guarantee plenty of sunshine, fantastic line ups and sometimes even a splash in the sea.

Soundwave Festival
When: 19, 20, 21, 22 July
Where: The Garden, Tisno, Croatia
Tickets: £79 for early bird tickets.

Why: Europe’s finest boutique festival returns for its 4th year at its new stunning location of Tisno on the gorgeous Dalmatian coastline between Split and Zadar and with its best line-up yet!

Over four sun kissed days and nights Soundwave Croatia provides music lovers with the perfect environment in which to enjoy the finest bands and DJs from around the world. This Year sees legendary kings of flower power hiphop De La Soul, the superbly soulful Fink, the deeply cinematic Hidden Orchestra, rising UK hiphop star Ghostpoet, the sublime Submotion Orchestra take to the Soundwave stage as well as over fifty other amazing acts including Belleruche, Plaid, Fink, Craig Charles, DJ Yoda plus many more

Melt Festival
When: 13, 14, 15 July
Where: Ferropolis, Germany
Tickets: 110 euros plus BF

Why:  Melt announce the first wave of international acts that will perform at the festival’s 15th edition from 13th to 15th July 2012. Acts including Gossip, Justice, Two Door Cinema Club, The Whitest Boy Alive, and M83 will perform beneath the iconic giant diggers, Bloc Party will celebrate their reunion with a very special performance and electronic music purveyors Richie Hawtin, Ellen Allien and Modeselektor will curate and host individual stages in co-operation with Melt! Not to mention performances from Benga live, Claude VonStroke, The Rapture, Justice, The Whitest Boy Alive, Todd Terje, The War on Drugs… the list goes on!
