Preview: The Great Escape 2012

The Great Escape Festival – where music industry vultures and Brighton’s many seagulls collide.

Europe’s leading festival for new music returns for another year in sunny Brighton, on the 10-12th May, for three manic days of gigs, impromptu streets performances, industry talks and drunken pictures on the pier.

This year will see headline sets from indie-heroes Maximo Park and spontaneous cross-cultural collaborations with the Africa Express Sound System. But let’s not forget what this festival is really about: buzzy newcomers. Brighton will play host to Alabama Shakes, Spector, Grimes, Porcelain Raft, Howler and Dry the River who will all be trying to win over as many fans as they can humanly fit in the 30+ venues dotted around the city.

On the comeback trail; Mystery Jets, EMA, Perfume Genius, Rolo Tomassi, Shabazz Palaces, Micachu and the Shapes and British ska-punk heroes Sonic Boom Six will return which makes for an ever eclectic and impressive line up.
