Preview: Underground Store Launch

I can remember Underground shoes from when I was younger and thinking that they were so cool. Far too cool for me. It was the 1990s and we were in Kickers and Wallabees. Underground shoes were more, well, underground. Brothel creepers, winkle pickers; shoes with a sense of history and style. And a sense of edgy Britishness.

That cool has been honed over 60 years and is still going strong. So much so that they are opening a flagship shop on Berwick Street in Soho. To celebrate they are hosting an official opening at 8 Berwick Street, with drinks of course. From 12 onwards the store will be hosting a big DJ set including IS TROPICAL, O CHILDREN, THROWING UP,GIRLS GET BUSY YOUR MUMS HOUSE and NTS. There is also an exclusive chance to see and buy shoes from a collaboration between Underground and Cassette Playa, whose aesthetic is bright, fun, rave inspired, Pop art and a bit tribal. Not a hint of vintage or retro whimsy! So that’s music, drinks and very cool shoes.
