Following on from the SS’12 collaboration with director, David Altobelli and the film, ‘ROMA’, the launch of the AW’12 campaign sees an escalation in 55DSL’s commitment to fuelling creativity – each season, the ‘Kids In Italia’ campaign gives artists the opportunity to showcase their unrestrained creative vision of 55DSL’s brand heritage: celebrating youth, freedom, fun and Italy.

Whereas ROMA focused on a boy and a girl’s journey through Rome, 55DSL are now proud to announce an even more ambitious adventure in collaboration with the award-winning directors, CANADA.
‘Beyond Mountains, More Mountains’ is CANADA’s first short film; an epic Italian road-trip, shot over two weeks, traveling from the mountains of Northern Italy, down to the Sicilian Island of Stromboli in the far south of the country.
The film will premiere at Milan Film Festival on September 19th 2012.

The Directors:

CANADA is Nicolás Méndez, Lopez Serrano and Luis Servero from Barcelona, Spain. The trio are critically acclaimed music video directors that have created works for the likes of El Guincho, Scissor Sisters, Two Door Cinema Club and more recently the new track by Justice called ‘New Lands’. Last year they were recognised by their peers for the outstanding work on Battles’ ‘Ice Cream’ video, receiving the Video Music Awards ‘Best Director’ accolade.

The Film:

‘Beyond Mountains, More Mountains’ is the biggest film CANADA has done as a collective. It is a post-modern love story; following a young couple who travel the length and breadth of Italy by car, motorbike, bus and on foot.  Stylistically the piece mixes art and simulation, fiction and improvisation, real experiences and written dialogues, hazard and ellipsis – it is these juxtaposing elements that make it feel so intensely passionate and honest.

The story’s thread is quite simply about a girl who has lost a boot – both literally and metaphorically. The couple’s search for the boot is not only a journey of discovery, but also an exploration of ancient Italy through the lens of the country’s many beautiful landscapes.
Nicolás Méndez of Canada on collaborating with 55DSL commented: “55 have been very supportive and understanding even though we went out there to shoot without a proper script. They believed in us and we appreciate that so much. We looove Italy, for everything that we know about it. When we started thinking about the project, we realized that most of what we know comes from the arts, literature and cinema. So we just wondered if “that” Italy we had in mind still existed. In order to find out, we wanted to travel through Italy as it is right now and try to confront the real Italy to what we know about it.”

The Music:

The film’s music has been scored by legendary composer, Riziero “Riz” Ortolani – a Grammy award winner and Oscar nominee.
