The last time I met up with Ada Zanditon, we sipped herbal tea and nattered about the Queen’s Jubilee like a pair of perms in Whitechapel. Since then the eco friendly designer has been hibernating away in her studio for the anticipated unleash of her new collection at London Fashion Week. I decided it was my responsibility to interrupt this hard work by asking Ada questions about the weather and such…
I love a dramatic thunderstorm. I was with my cousins in America on an island, watching a really epic thunderstorm from a sports bar across the road from the beach.
Plus, the Olympics were on. We delighted in thunder, lightening, sushi and male gymnastics: a winning combination.
The video to your last collection was very thunder-and-lightening-friendly; nothing better than a dystopian tea party. What’s the story for SS13?
The director, Thomas Knights and I really wanted to create an epic story for SS13 and, thanks to Easyjet Holidays, we’ve gone to Cyprus to film Tigress Reign. I’ll be discovering the island and its beautiful landscapes alongside super stylist Alexis Knox, Mika from Illamasqua and Christian Landon.
So it’s that time of the year again when London Fashion Week gets its gladrags on…excited?
The schedule looks great – it’s going to be another brilliant season for London, with everyone still buzzing from the Olympics and the Jubilee. As well as presenting my film in the Portico rooms, I’ll also be exhibiting in the west wing showroom of Somerset House in Estethica.
Would you say you’re more of a spring/summer or autumn/winter kind of designer?
I love them both for different reasons. I think if you favour one above the other then it’s really saying something more about the designer than the person they’re creating for. I want to imagine what someone desires in the moment; something that enhances their ‘present’, whenever that might be.
Has there been any last minute drama?
A button here, a pocket there! Not much really. I started designing back in January, we’ve been sampling since May, finished the resort section in early July and now we are 90% finished with the whole collection.
So will the collection have women craving a sun kissed slice of escapism?
The collection is light and elegant, but powerful and bold, meaning you can pack the whole collection into one small suitcase, have tons of looks to choose from, but plenty of room to bring back more: our ideal holiday wardrobe right?
Finally, with heavy importance, can we have a glass of fizz during fashion week?
Definitely! I hope we will. As long as you come to Felicities Presents on Monday 17th at the Portico rooms. There’s a great goody bag in store this season, thanks to Ecover, Illamasqua, Keune and delicious fairtrade Yorkshire Tea.
Fashion and fair-trade tea: tough to turn down.
And if you want to be a part of this exclusive tea party, Easyjet have a bloggers competition that could open the cupcake doors for you. They want to see what your summer holiday suitcase adventure would look like! Whether you choose to dress mysterious, magical, practical, or popping, the most imaginative outfit could secure your seat at Somerset House. Check out the competition HERE!
