Through a combination of official judges and the votes of over half a million members of the public, the 9th annual UK Festival Awards 2012 saw Bestival, New Order and Festival No.6 scoop big prizes, along with trophies for Django Django, Jake Bugg and Download.

Spindle fave Bestival took the Best Major Festival prize, confirming what we already suspected: that this once teeny-tiny newcomer is now seen as a major player of the highly competitive UK festival scene. Congratulations to Rob Da Bank!

Brand new for 2012 was Portmeirion’s Festival No. 6, which in its debut year received a lot of love, including the award for Best New Festival. Further wins came courtesy of music legends New Order, who were awarded Best Headline Act for their set at the festival, and Promoter Of The Year for festival majordomo Gareth Cooper.

Meanwhile, Best Line-Up – a category not voted on by the general public – was awarded to Download, while Django Django’s ‘Default‘ was voted Anthem of the Summer.

Steve Jenner, the Festival Awards co-founder said “It is pleasing to see so many first-time category winners breaking through this year and indicative of the dynamic movements in the market at this time. Much more than winning gongs, though, the Festival Awards are about celebrating and uniting the UK festival industry which, in these turbulent times, is more vital than ever.”
