O2W: Timur Kim

Let’s get to know Timur Kim shall we? Okay good. He started his illustrious career by showing a collection aged 16 at St-Petersburg Fashion Week. Pretty impressive, no? Agreed, very impressive. On moving to London (good choice), a studying stint at Central Saint Martin’s led to the esteemed Chloe award, oh and let’s not forget the Pringle Award. Awards everywhere!

So what’s the all important aesthetic, you ask? Well, Timur Kim’s designs are all about natural movement (it’s all in the hips) to create immaculately tailored items that have a life about them. From his sweeping shirtdresses to floor-grazing gowns, the clothing treads that perfect line between contemplative and commercial; the best of both worlds. He’s used a scrapbook of inspiration, ranging from Dr.Zhivago, to modern Hollywood, early 20th century Russia – oh, and cowboys. Don’t forget the cowboys.

The Timur Kim collection is a total hit. For starters, the model looks like a cheekboned editorial sister of Tiffany Mitchell from Eastenders (any excuse for a Martine McCutcheon reference in an article).

The collection itself gives a prairie girl a galactic coating. The look is conservative but with a cutting edge spark, with flirty vintage skirts that parachute out like sci-fi pods in the cutest of terminology intentions. Mash-up a meadow with the Jetsons, and then you’ll have a Timur Kim way of thinking!
