EUROPEAN TRAVEL FESTIVAL GUIDE PART 4: OPEN’ER FESTIVAL

Open’er Festival, Gdynia, Gdynia-Kosakowo Airport, Poland, 3-6th July 2013

Tired of mainstream British festivals like Reading, Leeds and the like? But fancy something along the same proportions? Well look no further than Open’er festival on the north coast of Poland, a previous winner of the European Festival Awards’ Best Major Festival.   Packing the same punch as its British counter parts, it boasts an incredibly rich and varied line up, from Blur to Nick cave, Alt-J to Matisyahu.  Open’er combines countless music legends from around the world all under one roof as well as a more varied crowd, with people from all over Europe descending on it. With Heineken as its sponsor expect a certain amount of advertising and commercialism, but this is predictable from a festival of its size. It also has a fairly unique look, unlike many festivals where there are several strips lined with stalls and stages, Open’er is all about space.  The stalls and stages encircle a huge expanse of open land – it even has its very own disused air craft hanger – which will be graced by numerous live acts and plenty of audiovisual delights, promising to be an awe-inspiring spectacle.
