O2W: Samara York

This blonde haired, blue-eyed beauty, Samara York, is Canada’s latest music inspiration and sensation. The young and talented 19-year-old Canadian singer and songwriter is giving everything she’s got to be involved in Toronto’s music industry. Alongside Samara are her dedicated and talented band members, Jaime Cazes her guitarist, bassist Tudor Gagea and drummer Adam Thomas.

With her spot on vocals and rhythms, Samara’s music is different then anything we’ve ever heard. Not to mention Samara playing the piano and singing is a natural lullaby. Her distinct and unique voice separates her from other aspiring musicians and artists. Her music reminds me of a collaboration of a lighter and younger version of Adele and Sara Bareilles.

Samara has been singing since she was 5 years old and started to write songs at the age of 6. She taught herself to play the piano and uses her natural voice and talents to create mind-blowing honest truthful songs. She recorded her first EP at the age of 16 – “Just Passing Through” – which was released in 2010 and has progressed to a more mature, elegant musician since then.

Her song “Space Between” is a mix of blues and faded indie rock with emotionally honest lyrics. Definitely a great track and one of a kind to check out. Samara is releasing her first CD “Insides” in mid July 2013 where we will later get a real grasp of this talented musician’s music. Samara describes her new CD to be “exactly what it sounds like – tried and true gut-spilling.” She says that all the songs were written spontaneously over the course of two years with a whole lot of honesty and truth. We can’t wait to get our hands on “Insides,” and we hope you do too!
