Words Spindle

What were you guys doing when you were 17? I was sitting exams, swooning over pubescent boys and wearing awesomely unflattering ‘I can’t believe that made a comeback’ statement pieces. One thing I was definitely not doing was making   experimental lo-fi slow jams from my bedroom, unlike this guy.

XXYYXX, aka Marcel Everett, is in a word a prodigy. At the cutting edge with this eras electronic mavericks he’s mixing influences from Star Slinger, Disclosure and Shlohmo and churning out sounds akin to James Blake, Clams Casino and The Weeknd. Everett describes his music as “Doing drugs on a freeway… underwater.” Awesome.

So if you’re an electro beats junkie you’ll not want to miss him playing alongside the likes of Blackbird Blackbird and Salva at KOKO this May. I’ll be nestled in the middle of the sound stream from each speaker, see you there.

Follow Spindle, give us a tweet and tag XXYYXX to be in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets. Competition ends 22nd April, winners will be notified on 27th April.
