With the coming of Spring, this well-known venue’s rooftop has been transformed into a place for the hip crowds of East London to sample some cultural and culinary delights when things turn hot.
So, what’s on offer? For the fleet of foot there are rooftop headphone disco parties with well-known guest DJs such as Norman Jay and Jazzie B doing their stuff on the decks. But if films rather than footwork are your thing, then you’ll be pleased to know that the hugely successful Rooftop Film Club is back with a packed programme of cult classics (watch out for details, as tickets get snapped-up quickly). Viewers are supplied not only with blankets but also headphones so that they are not disturbed by film-goers ordering BBQ delights such as pulled pork stuffed in a bun slathered in whisky BBQ sauce, a roasted red pepper, feta and pesto burger or a pink grapefruit Paloma frozen cocktail. (Staying with food, watch out for the club’s National Picnic Week celebration in June complete with gourmet hampers and British-themed vintage stalls.) But if this all too too much, darling, and you simply want to lie back and relax, from morning to late afternoon there is the Hot Club Tropicana with loungers, a paddling pool and a hot tub. And, if some traditional British summer rain makes its appearance, then the semi-permanent roof cover will spring into action. But, whatever the weather, nothing can deprive roof-goers of superb views of the City and Docklands.
Looks like Summer in town is well and truly sorted.
