What interesting products do you have for sale in your shop at the moment?
Our stationery is pretty special; brass scissors, foil embossed journals, letterpress notebooks, silkscreen printed cards and more.
What illustrators do you have in?
In Bristol, the same illustrators crop up in the same shops at the same prices. Of course they’re talented and we personally really like their work, but we aim to showcase different illustrators and designers and to provide a platform for up-and-coming talent. We select work which is affordable (usually between £10 and £50 for a limited edition print).
What are your aims for the shop?
To continue to bring beautiful, design-led stationery, books, magazines and greetings cards from all over the world to Bristol and to the rest of the world via our online shop buysomethingelse.com. In the short term we’ll expand our range of stationery and books and long term we’ll design our own range of stationery.
Tell us about your design agency?
The studio, Something Good, has been running for two years. There are two of us, and we bring in extra creative muscle when we need it. Lately we’ve been painting murals, designing signage and working on websites.
The space is unusual for Great Britain in that half is a studio and half is a shop, giving the public a unique opportunity to walk into a design studio, which would usually be unaccessible without an appointment. People who are interested in working with us can visit and see us working and interacting with customers before approaching us, and the space is a showroom for our style.
What events/exhibitions do you have coming up in the shop?
We’re preparing for an invasion. London-based collective Hero of Switzerland take over the shop with their exhibition ‘Travel’ from 20th July. There are SEVEN of them coming our way and they’ve suggested Champagne, Raki (hideous Turkish drink apparently), tequila, rum and whisky for the party drinks. 20th July – 20th August, 10am-7pm, closed Sundays.
Anything else you want to add?
Look out for our new exhibitions – they’ll change on a monthly basis.
