Tell me about your brand, how long have you been going and how did you get into designing?
MaKers LDN is a lifestyle brand incorporating many aspects of creativity from design, direction and production. The label has been running almost two years.
Designing and artwork was something that came easily to me, so after dropping out of Fashion School with A LOT of motivation I became a self-taught designer. Initially I fell into designing and producing bits for artists to make a bit of cash. It wasn’t my intention to start a label but it felt right at the time and has been working well ever since.
Where does the name come from?
My Dad named me Melody as he is very passionate about music – his most prized possession was his Gibson Melody Maker. MaKers LDN is an extension of me, it has meaning and is a positive reminder to keep making something of yourself.
What do you have planned for your next collection?
Ah, so excited about my next collection – it is inspired by one of my favourite films, Wild at Heart. After spending most of last and this year in the States, and after long journeys on the road, I felt inspired by the ‘American Dream’. I can’t say too much at the moment, but this is the biggest collection yet with a strong graphic print leading it.
What are your aims for the brand?
Going global – we already have a good following around the world but I would like to see it grow bigger and better. Collaborate with exciting people and create a wider audience.
Who’s your target customer?
Customers that like to buy an item with a story behind it, who are interested in purchasing a limited edition piece and people who prefer ethically sourced garments, manufactured in England.
