My jewellery company is now 3 years old! I knew that what ever I would end up doing, it had to be creative. If I wasn’t drawing or making, I’d be dreaming up flamboyant fashion combinations! Fine Art was always my big passion, creating large sculptures in plaster and bamboo at school. It wasn’t until I went onto Art College in Cornwall that these sculptures gradually became smaller and smaller, until finally they became adornments in metal for the body!
What do you have planned for your next collection?
I have just returned from Kenya, where I worked on a fair trade collaboration with MADE. I worked directly with the skilled Artisans in Nairobi, learning from them, as well teaching them some skills of my own. We explored the local markets, as well as meeting the Maasai and witnessing their incredible skill of bead work, in the mountains. The collection I’ve created with MADE shall be launching in London in September!
What are your aims for the brand?
To continue global expansion, to revisit international trade fairs, and in 5 years to open my flag ship store in London.
Who’s your target customer?
Women and men who love to deviate from convention, and express themselves through unique ‘wild’ and ‘rockesque’ jewellery.
Where are your stockists?
You can discover my jewellery in London at the stores Harrods and Kabiri. My collections are also stocked at Luisa Via Roma in Italy, Russell Street in Hong Kong, the Four Seasons Hotel in Prague, as well as smaller more independent boutiques across the globe. Excitingly, we are also about to launch at the new concept store Flat 128 in New York.
What musician would you love to see wearing your designs?
David Bowie and Shirley Bassey!
What designer would you most like to collaborate with and why?
Osman. I love his use of embellishment in his garments, and would love to team up with him, and create something sculptural and spectacular.
Describe your personal style….
Tom boy drapped in Liberty print dresses, teamed with Dr Martens; limbs and digits stacked with my golden jewels.
What’s the last exhibition you went to?
I was very lucky to have the opportunity to visit the Biennale in Venice a few weeks ago.
What’s your favourite film?
I’m a huge fan of the Coen Brothers, so any film by them. The Big Lebowski and Fargo are two of my favourites.
What’s currently on your ipod?
My boyfriends taste in intense prog rock has somehow ‘Ween-ed’ it’s way onto my ipod, good music to run too, if slightly Emo!
