Music Monday: A Tribute to Lou Reed

Monday 28 October 2013
Words Spindle

“The world has lost a fine songwriter and poet… I’ve lost my ‘school-yard buddy’” – John Cale

We’re saddened by the news that one of the most influential songwriters of the past century, Lou Reed, passed away yesterday aged 71. He had been suffering with liver failure and had a transplant in May.

As a founding member of The Velvet Underground, the band concentrated on the avant garde and were about art as much as music, working with Andy Warhol at the beginning of their career. Despite not gaining commercial success at the time, the band and Lou Reed have gone on to be cited as producing some of the most important and influential work for many of today’s artists.

Impossible to pick just one great song written by this man, this week we bring you two videos by the late, great Lou Reed.
