With a commitment to sculpting only the highest quality natural materials, Bethan’s furniture designs synergize lightweight appearance with a solid structure that harmoniously slot into any contemporary setting. Both timeless and elegant, the pieces possess an understated appeal that we believe is beautifully expressed in her ‘All Marble Brogue’ table, with the curve of its body finished in precise symmetry.
Another firm favourite is her ‘Alice Tableware’ collection covering cake stands, cheese boards and plates with black and white configurations that pull in the eye to marvel at its distinctive aesthetic and smooth surface.
Looking to the history behind the designer, we know that although brilliant, the execution of her pieces is not the only quality that has won her this year’s title. Bethan has roamed the globe to soak up inspiration, often finding it in historical sites across Europe such as the 9th Century Amalfi Cathedral in Italy and the 20th Century San Giovanni Battista in Switzerland. We learn that it is the intriguing details of such discoveries that allows her to enrich simple everyday objects with the charm that has made the voting public warm to her with such pace.
Speaking on behalf of her team at Bethan Gray Design, the winner says she is “really honoured to have been awarded Best British Designer 2013” and is “already working on new and intriguing collections for 2014.”
