Midnight Swimming is a post-break up anthem in which the imperfections of a previous relationship become realisations. The swirling loops assure us that there’s nothing better than a cooling down period to let loose.
Exhaler is perhaps the most infectious of the lot. The impassioned harmonies and intensity of the instrumental truly stresses the feelings once shown towards a love now lost and the element of forgiveness.
The songs flows effortlessly into the title track. A running theme of heartache is evident as the boys proclaim “I am faceless / Tired and wasted / I am stateless”, which leads you to think their music is based on experiences faced in the transition from youth to manhood.
The boys weigh in on themselves in Dying To Start Again, asking: “Tell me what else can I do? / I feel so far from you”. Undertones of melancholy, various straining twangs and the resilience of the lyrics make way for empathetic listening.
Though the boys consider themselves as stateless, the mark they are about to make is going to put them on the map.
