Photo of the Week: William Eggleston

William Eggleston – Louisiana, c1971-1974

William Eggleston experimented with colour photography in the 1960’s, at this time colour photography had never been associated with fine art photography. Eggleston has been credited with introducing colour practises into this form of the medium, and by doing so changing the future of photography. His images of suburban America are hauntingly beautiful and still hold their own against contemporary work today.

A selection of Eggleston’s prints can be currently seen at the Tate Modern.
