For people that don’t know true misery, this maudlin ditty is often trotted out as THE anti-Christmas festive song.

But the reason it makes the Nukebox is precisely the strained, overly sentimental lyrics that desperately want you to feel something. Bonus feature: an annoying bit of talking by the lead singer pleading with you – yes YOU – to come back to him, begging you to remember how good last Christmas was. You get the impression the songs cuts off just before he calls and tells you he’s taken some pills.

Fun fact: the B-side to this single was a song called ‘I Can’t Stand It’. The joke sort of writes itself.
