Christmas Nukebox: Spotlight on Christmas, Rufus Wainwright

Wednesday 11 December 2013
Words Spindle

Rufus Wainwright’s meditation on the meaning of Christmas for the working man and the poor little rich girls is an intelligent, meaningful seasonal song – unusual in the Christmas song genre.

The song was first recorded for the compilation album Maybe This Christmas Too? with proceeds going towards the charity Toys For Tots. A noble endeavour certainly, but this song ranks in our all-time Christmas faves for the hilarious version he performed as a reluctant duet with French and Saunders during one of their Christmas specials.

Take a look below to hear the sincerity of Rufus’ performance accompanied by a never-better Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.
