Wild Beasts Release New Video For Wanderlust

Wild Beast have revealed the release date for their fourth album Present Tense.

The Domino-signed foursome are due to release their album on February 24th, however pre-ordering the record will give you access to the opening single Wanderlust.

A video for the track is also out, and its quirkiness fits perfectly with the song. It’s instantly intruiging, showing four different people (a good lady, quarterback, girl and thief) running to… well, nowhere. You watch a story unfold, kind of, and you half expect the thief to mug at least one of them.

So, the running continues, the quarterback plays football and the girl seems to be on the run (literally) from home. The weather turns gloomy – the thief seemingly chasing the good lady, but never quite catching up with her. The ending shows all four people stopped in their tracks amidst the rain and sleet, screaming. They’re not happy, that’s for sure – and you witness a breakdown of each character occur.

It’s hard to fully grasp what’s happening, meaning that more than one theory or story can be drawn from what you’ve just watched. Perhaps each individual viewer can take something unique from it.

My own understanding was that regardless of your lifestyle, background or daily routine – we all have our own issues that can ultimately lead to our downfall. Deep.

The vocals have traces of Win Butler, lead singer of Arcade Fire, and even Jack Steadman of Bombay Bicycle Club – a fine combination resulting in a hauntingly beautiful indie pop vibe. The song is addictive as you struggle to work out what is being sung, but can’t help but listen again and again.

Though it may take a listen or two to figure out what the lyrics are, regardless of whether you understand or not – the sheer sound of the vocals mixed with the repetitive drumming, choir-like chants in the background, consistent strums and synthesized beats all mesh together to produce a concoction filled with promise and excitement for the rest of the album.

Having played it quiet for the past year – performing in the likes of Liverpool, Sheffield and even Istanbul (maybe not so quiet after all) – the band are ready to take 2014 by storm.

A tour across the EU, US and of course UK begins in March and ends in April, with the closing show in Brixton. Get yourself excited for the upcoming gigs and watch the video yourself – maybe even try and figure out what the heck is going on…
