This London Fashion Week will find me running around in the catacombs of the beautiful Freemasons Hall, where tucked backstage are the hair and makeup rooms for FASHION SCOUT.

Each designer showing this season is allocated a room and has a team of artists hard at work with makeup on one side, hair on the other.

Fashion scout are sponsored by Bodyshop and the key artist for the shows is Lan Nguyen-Grealis, who generally has a first assist as support so she can move between makeup rooms and oversee getting the “look” up on runway on time.

Napsugar gave us BIG retro hair – a real 60s rock n’ roll feel to It. A high straight up half head beehive clasped in at the back with a small ponytail flat to the nape.

The front of the hair hung down in a waved “bang” keeping it modern.

The makeup was beautiful, pale, clean, illuminated, dewy skin, a red lip and a slight glitter twinkle eyebrow.

I managed to get backstage for Ong-Oaj Pairam and ask which products were being used in this show. It seems the trick is to use illuminating eye shadows over the top of the “radiance highlighter”, a moisturising glowing skin boost. I am so glad I am not alone in this little trick. It really pushes the luminosity of skin on cheekbones.

IMG_0972The look was a 60s-looking liquid liner but the fresh twist on this was to keep the liner pulled out flatter with a more triangular shape. The lip colour was Coral Cutie, which matched the flaming reds, orange and yellow fabrics in this collection.

Once again the hair was BIG. Totally back combed and swept over to one side but very high on the top. It had a neat bun tucked in just under the ear.

I also had a sneaky peak in the Pam Hogg makeup room.

The show theme is celebration, and the brief was colour – and lots of it! So Lan and her assist Kelly Mendiola chose to use orange lip, pink eye, blue eyebrow or eyeshadow.

The favourite lip colour  is again Coral Cutie from the colour crush range using a shadow over the lip to intensify and mattify

Guess what? There was BIG HAIR! Am I  seeing a trend here?

The Ones To Watch is a show with four up and coming designers and all the models walk for all the designers, so there is a generic hair and makeup look that works with every collection.

A beautiful navy colour wash through the eye which had a little glitter applied to the ball of the eye. This wash winged right out of the eyeline – very delicate, clean and pretty. A dark lip for all designers. The lips were glittered up for the last designer out.

All the hair was gelled back tight with either a plait in a “Mohawk” run or the plait standing  vertically into the air.

It seemed today was more about creating a modern 50s/60s BIG back combed hair and getting the skin to look as dewy and luminous as possible. I wonder what tomorrow will bring?
