Introducing: DWNTWN

Words Spindle

Meet the American three-piece whose laid back California sounds will have you longing for lazy sun-drenched summer afternoons in warmer climates.

Each talented musicians in their own right, collectively Jamie Leffler, Robert Cepeda and Chris Sanchez form California based three-piece band DWNTWN. Offering a dreamy haze of synth-sounds and melancholic pop, it’s safe to say that DWNTWN have got us more than excited for summer here at Spindle.

Whilst the lyrics of their most recently released track ‘Til Tomorrow’ are heartfelt and deep with a brutally honest underlying meaning, the playful twinkling electronic accompaniment makes for an upbeat somewhat utopian offering, which flaunts Jamie’s butter-wouldn’t-melt vocals to full maximum potential. Their sound would not sit out of place in a playlist alongside The Postal Service, Phoenix, Passion Pit and The Naked and Famous – all pioneers of infectious indie-pop.

The trio have also released covers of The 1975’s ‘Chocolate’ and Calvin Harris’s ‘Feel So Close’ and whilst these are both mainstream crowd pleasers in their own right, DWNTWN have managed to put their own unique spin on them, providing something utterly young and unquestionably fresh. The DWNTWN EP, which includes ‘Til Tomorrow’, is due out this April.
