Tried & Tested: The Makeup Store SS14 Fusion & Deluxe Collections

Wednesday 12 March 2014
Words Spindle

This week we tried out the Make Up Store SS14 Fusion & Deluxe Collections.

1. Old Lace Microshadow // 2. Blue Venato Microshadow  // 3. Thistle Microshadow  // 4. Umber Eye Dust  // 5. Sparkle Eye Dust  // 6. Bittersweet Lipstick // 7. Pink Panther Lipstick

What’s the hype?

March sees the release of the Make Up Store’s SS14 collection “Fusion” & in April  the “Deluxe”  collection is  also hitting the shops. There’s a focus on lots of sheer lip textures and soft pastel hues through a mix of different textures.  Think garden-ready lavenders, soft peaches and rose bud pinks.

Micro Shadow

Thistle Microshadow ( Soft grey with gold specks)

Old Lace Microshadow (Creamy beige)

Blue Venato Microshadow (Marbalized blue with gold and grey undertones)

Longevity  –  Good staying power and pigment but you will need a base as these are very powdery.

Pigment Coverage – Sheer but build-able

Cruelty Free – We couldn’t find this information anywhere online. No cruelty free beauty markings on the packaging lead us to believe they may not be cruelty free but as with many products these days it could just be that ingredients in the past had been tested once, but  they perhaps no longer are. We’ll let you know if/when we find out more!

Application –  Best to apply with a flat brush and blend out with a fluffier brush. Primer will be needed.

Similar To – Matte Eyeshadows

Pink Panther Lipstick (Fuchsia Pink)

Bittersweet Lipstick (Terracotta )

Longevity  –  Average – use a primer first and a lip pencil underneath to give longer staying power and oomph!

Pigment Coverage – Sheer

Cruelty Free – ?

Application –  Easiest to apply with a  firm flat brush. Use a lip pencil to give more definition to the lip line or wear smudged in the centre of the lip for a softer finish.

Similar To – Less glossy than Mac Lustre Lipsticks & more pigmented than Burts Bee’s lip balms.

Orhid Lipgloss (Nude with orange swirls)

Longevity  – As with all lip glosses this product will last a few hours on it’s own before you’ll need to reapply. This is one of my favourite products in the new launch! Very very pretty!

Pigment Coverage – Medium but gorgeous! It’s got a slight iridescent but not glittery quality about it that makes it a great POP for spring

Cruelty Free – ?

Application – Doe Foot applicator

Similar to – Nars Lipgloss

What’s the verdict?

The collection has some gorgeous subtle shades for spring. If you like your makeup to look soft and natural you will love it. If you like a stronger look you may find this collection a little too soft. Either way primers will benefit the collection to give more longevity but colour choice if fantastic.

How much are they & where can you find them?

Gloss  £13

Lipstick £12.50

Eyeshadow £11

Microshadow £11

Available on Make Up Store’s website and at its Carnaby Street shop from April.
