Only at the tender age of seventeen East Atlanta based artist, songwriter and producer Raury, is making waves in 2014. Invoking memories of early Andre 3000 and comparisons to wunderkinds King Krule and Chance The Rapper with his raucous single “God’s Whisper”, it is no wonder Raury has attracted attention from Zane Lowe, NME and Noisey so far.
Taken from his debut EP “Indigo Child”, “God’s Whisper” straddles the genres of folk, alt-hip-hop, ad World music, resulting in something rather unique. Driven by a powerful under-beat accompanied by a rhythmic hand-clap, Raury’s spoken vocals are raw, youthful and defiant. Bursting into a climax with an energetic end, Raury breaks free from any prescribed musical mould and “God’s Whisper” is a calling for a new set of fresh-faced vocals.
More than just a project title, “Indigo Child” is a new age belief of children who posses special and unusual abilities. This is a belief that Raury relates to, which will become clear when the EP is released later this year. Raury is sure to make a break in 2014. You heard it here first.
