If you’re expecting to be reading the A-Z guide of the Edo State capital in southern Nigeria then this post will disappoint. However, if you’re interested in knowing about Benin City, the 3 part multi instrumentalist/vocal group with an alternative sound that taps into electronica, brass, jazz, hip hop and spoken word, then you will be most pleased. They’ve got a cool vibe and have supported the wonderful VV Brown and awesome Bipolar Sunshine.

The trio are about to drop a new 5 track EP ‘Midnight Malarky’ -which is a great name- and follows on from their debut LP ‘Fires in the Park’ , released last year via Audio Doughnuts. Josh Idehen is the poet, Tom Leaper masters the synths and Liam Waugh takes care of the drum action.

Take a listen to their lead track ‘Bus’

The band have just announced a 3 week residency at The Social which kicked off on the 9th June with Manou, as part of the venue’s new music night ‘Blackjack’ so get yourself down there to see this funky trio live!
