There’s nothing we love more than celebrating independent musicians, and AIM’s latest announcement has got us congratulating numerous British artists. The fourth annual Independent Music Awards will be taking place in London on the 2nd of September, and the nominees for the awards have recently been announced.
Leading the way this year is electronic pop trio London Grammar, who have been nominated for an impressive four awards, including Independent Breakthrough of the Year, Best Live Act, Album of the Year and Track of the Year. The group have enjoyed success since their debut last year, being the only act to obtain more than two nominations. Following them are Bonobo, FKA Twigs, Future Islands and Artic Monkeys, who all received two each.
Vying against them for the Track of the Year includes Sampha and Twin Atlantic, whilst East India Youth, Kate Tempest and Fred V & Grafix are amongst those joining them in the competition for Independent Album of the Year. New award category, the Innovator Award, will also take place, celebrating the achievements of an artist or label who is currently pushing the boundaries for independent sound. And of course, big up to our lady Femme who’s up for hardest working artist.
With independent labels currently enjoying their highest market share in a very long time, the 2014 awards look set to be big. Best of luck to all of those that have been nominated.
