How’s your time in Austin been?
It’s been very fun and really intense, we had three shows yesterday!
Are you looking forward to seeing anyone in particular at SXSW?
I’d love to see Skepta & Earl Sweatshirt. I really wanted to see the beach boys too but I missed them last night.
Have you tried any good food whilst here?
Yeah I had the sloppy beans and potatoes and burritos, it’s all pretty unhealthy and good. I did my record in Atlanta and the food is kinda similar.
What are your top 3 festivals you’d like to play at and why?
SXSW was always on the list, Coachella would be amazing because I’ve heard good things and it’s in the states which is always fun. Glastonbury as well.
Who would be the headliner if you curated a festival? Apart from yourselves of course.
Hall and Oats definitely.
Name your festival.
What do you think festivals are missing? Like if you could introduce one thing to festivals, what would it be?
A lot of crease. More crease.
Give us your fave festival anecdote.
That time I lost my passport and it was really funny… Just now and I still haven’t sorted it out… LOL!
That aside, I went to Offset in Essex when I was 16 and I impulsively body slammed my tent which completely broke the tent so I had to sleep in it like it was a sleeping bag with my head out of the door.
Another good story was at Latitude festival, I was naked in my tent and I really needed the toilet but it was raining, so I put on my raincoat and walked to the toilets and on the way someone asked to get a picture with me. So someone out there has a selfie with me naked in my raincoat.
If you could bring one act back from the dead who would it be?
Elvis! I just don’t know if I believe he’s even real, he’s such a myth. It struck me about a year ago that Elvis was actually a real person, he’s this weird character that was so amazing. When I was a kid I had this Elvis key ring which had this pelvis thrust motion thing. So I was on my way to school in year 7 and I lost the legs when I was waiting for the tube. I just kept the top half on my keys then a year later I was on my way to school again and I spotted the legs under a bench on the platform! Elvis’s legs found their way back to me!
If you weren’t in the music industry, what do you think you’d be doing right now?
I used to sell sandwiches on a bike so I’d probably be making my way up in that business. Or I’d be in the circus. Realistically I think I’d be in the circus doing the Diablo. I’m pretty skilled at it, I could do two Diablos on one string.
Only Real’s debut album ‘Jerk At The End Of The Line’ will be out on 30th March.
