A Kickstarter campaign has been kick started in hope to launch ‘Marco’s Florence’, which will be a video series created in hope of highlighting Florence’s hidden gems as well as educate tourists on sustainable tourism in order to Save Florence. By successful sustainable tourism, the city hopes to attract, and keep, budding creatives and artists living in the city that has since seen a massive decrease in these individuals since ’94.
Mark Smith, creator and narrator, explains the Kickstarter is for people to “understand more deeply the little corners and the surprises that exist in this city that is absolutely a treasure of renaissance art history”. The aim is for tourists to branch out of the city’s central museums and main streets and encourage them to enter the 90% of generally unseen parts of the architectural and artistically beautiful location.
By broadening the horizons of tourists visiting it will hopefully create a decrease in the amount of graffiti on city monuments, as well as those visitors who use the city’s streets as a bathroom or a bedroom when hotels become full.
Prince Ottaviano De Medici finishes by saying, “If you wish to save Florence, discover her”. To find out more about the project and how to donate click here. And next time you’re in a new city, take a turn not knowing where you’ll end up. You never know what you might discover.
