Music Monday: Blur ‘Ong Ong’

Monday 08 June 2015
Words Alice Bell

At the risk of posting all of Blur’s videos from The Magic Whip, this week we feature the heartwarming Ong Ong. Somewhat of a continuation of Go Out (also directed by Tony Hung), we see our smily friend Mr OK travel through various lands to rescue his girlfriend.

Perfectly capturing the feel of computer games from the 80s and 90s, from you’re egging for our hero to win with the same anticipation and absorption as if you were playing the game yourself. A nice touch you discover at the end (spoiler cheap viagra 150 mg alert) is that the boss of each level turns out to be a member of the band, with the big boss as a great reference to their album cover.

Animation director, Layla Atkinson says, “The song is full of fun and is very catchy which lent itself perfectly to Tony’s arcade game theme. As a big fan of the look from those early video games it was great to research them and to recreate classic 8 bit games such as Pong and Astro pinball.”
