Following track ‘Icebear’, Petite Meller’s French inspired single, ‘Backpack’ is due for official release on April 14th.

So you may have been playing it on YouTube for a while by now, but this April marks the official release of Petite Meller’s single ‘Backpack’ via Night Beach Records.

Whilst ‘Icebear is an adaptation of 80s German band Grauzone’s Eisbar, which Meller collaborated on with Yiddish singer Joe Fleisch, ‘Backpack’ is a gleeful, quirky and upbeat psychedelic-pop song steeped in French references. With the video, shot around the village Garabit in the French Riviera, directed by A.T.Mann and Napoleon Habeica paying homage to a string of French New Wave films – including Godard’s Pierrot Le Fou, and George Anri Cluzot’s masterpiece L’Enfer.

Petite Meller’s sound is distinctive in a neuvo jazz-meets-experimental-pop kind of fashion and ‘Backpack’ is no exception to this. Capturing the memoirs of Meller’s childhood in the ‘Backpack’ video, it is clear that her work is more than just music; it’s a thought provoking art-form thrown together in an absurdist ethereal manner.

‘Backpack’ will be released April 14th, but for now you can watch the video below.
