Originally founded and based in Lancashire, their ascent began with their innovative rucksack designs. Karrimor was actually credited with the creation of the frameless backpack with integrated hip belt system, something which is still widely used today. Since then, they have diversified and are now responsible for creating anything and everything to do with the great outdoors. With their illustrious history steeped in the manufacturing of Great British outerwear, it should come as no surprise that for their latest collection Karrimor have collaborated with famed British designer Nigel Cabourn.
Like Karrimor, Nigel Cabourn is an industry mainstay with over 40 years of experience under his belt. Cabourn’s designs are renowned for being hard-wearing while also being stylish – a combination rarely seen in much of today’s fashion.
The centrepiece of the collaboration is a jacket with a built-in rucksack – an ode to the esteemed Karrimor legacy. The collaborative endeavour known as the K100 Collection was unveiled at Nigel Carbourn’s flagship store The Army Gym in Covent Garden, with rowing champion double Olympic Gold medallist James Cracknell and Countryfile presenter Helen Skelton all in attendance. Of the 60 piece collection, Nigel Carbourn has designed and manufactured 12 unique pieces – all made here in the UK.
The Karrimor legacy began with functional British made products, so this collaboration with Nigel Cabourn is a definite return to their roots.
