Ariana & the Rose Goes to London Fashion Week

Fashion often meets at the intersection between art, music, culture and clothes and this season’s London Fashion Week was a four-car pile up of it all. Bloggers decked out in colored (faux) fur, presentations filled with models who (gasp!) interacted with the fashion viewers and a musical backdrop filled with stomping beats and overflowing attitude. And while the tried and true designers continue to do their part in pushing the industry forward (see: all things Burberry), this season truly belonged to the up-and-comers.

Everyone was going outside the box, from models covered in tattoos and brightly colored hair, to the way the collections themselves were presented: a make-shift hotel, an underground lair and a dinner party at a ski resort, to name a few. So, for this amazing scope of all the arts colliding, I thought, it’d be the most fun to hand out a few superlatives, because who doesn’t like getting an award? **

Best Girl Squad (and Most Likely to Save the World)

Typical Freaks

Inspired by all your favorite super heroes, Typical Freaks’ winter 2016 collection is built for the feminine badass in us all. ½ of the design duo Seun Ade-Onojobi sited films such as Scott Pilgrim vs the World as a major inspiration for the collection and we totally get it. The set’s pop-art feel framed its punk-y super hero models, who had as much fun playing with their viewers as we did watching them kick ass.

Clio Peppiatt

This goes to relative newcomer Clio Peppiatt. If you don’t know her, GET. ON. IT. Her collections are pure fun mixed with just the right amount of cool. The clothes are a blend of wearable silhouettes, such as clean-lined outerwear, done in lux faux colored fur and patent leather. She has created a pair of fluffy bunny slippers that turn any London street into a catwalk.

Cutest Couple

Charlotte Simone + Adidas

Another playful gal, this girl is all about pom-poms. She’s got them on hats and now on trainers with her most recent Adidas collaboration. Her collection of fluffy jackets and accessories makes any simple outfit a girly-girl’s dream but it’s this trainer collab that has got me all kinds of envious. What a perfect union.

The whole thing just worked. Sixties styled glam gals, in pastel dresses and bouffant hair dos stomped the runway while raspy-voiced chicks reeked of rebellion and confidence through the speakers. “I’m nothing but trouble,” one repeated. Oh, and we were in a Church too! Could you piss off Daddy anymore? It was the perfect backdrop for the ultra girly babe looking to get into a bit of mischief.

This collection is EVERYTHING. The metallic space age bodysuits need to be worn everywhere, here on earth and on our way to Mars. If we ever encounter aliens I hope we’re wearing what models strutted the runway with, in deep blues, saturated purples and starred helmets and pasties to match. Grace Jones would be so proud.

** I have no physical awards to hand out but we could send flowers?
