Myself and Jack were recently invited out to SXSW in Austin, Texas, one of the world’s most prestigious music festivals and all-round non-stop parties. Here are some of our experiences as a new band at SXSW.
Pretty much as soon as we got there, we were in trouble with the law. This is the facial expression of someone who’s just accidentally run a red light and has been pulled over by the cops. We were released with a caution, thank you Texas police force.
We completely lucked with our Airbnb, not only did we get to stay in a great neighborhood in a gorgeous little house, but when we tweeted our love to Airbnb, they turned up at our front door half an hour later with craft beers, a goodie bag and the all-important loo roll.
We bumped into the gorgeous hobbit who is Elijah Wood going into the awesome little record shop End of An Ear and went home with a suitcase full of vinyl ourselves.

Dodgy pap shot of Elijah Wood:
Here I am headed off to our first show in a gorgeous leather skirt from Scottish designer Mairi McDonald. I met Mairi at London Fashion Week last year, I love her work, all of her designs are inspired by rock stars throughout history and it’s great to be able to take that work onto a stage.
Playing shows at SXSW was brilliant, it was so cool to have people there who knew who we were and some who’d flown across state to see us. SXSW is one massive party. Once that wristband’s on, you’ve got access to as many free shows as you can queue for, and once you’re in, the drinks are often free. Our favourite gigs were Chvrches and Jack Garratt’s, both are incredible live acts and we sang our lungs out at Everything Everything’s show, danced with the security guards at Santigold and we had serious human hamster ball envy at this show:
Austinites are incredibly friendly and we made new friends at every show we went to. SXSW is definitely something everyone should do in their lifetime!!
That’s all from us for now folks! Here’s our latest video that just premiered on Popjustice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k993pVu1TY4
