The Maccabees split: ‘After 14 years as a band we have decided to call it a day’

The much loved indie group have today announced that they have decided to disband. In a heartfelt statement released this lunchtime, the South London five-piece explain that “there have been no fallings out and we are grateful to say that we are not leaving the group behind as a divided force.”

After 14 long years together as one of the UK’s most well known and celebrated bands under the indie genre umbrella, the group commented that “the decision has obviously been an incredibly difficult one, given that The Maccabees has been such a huge part of our lives until now” and that “it has been a rare and absolutely incredible time that we all feel very lucky to have shared.”

“Love to anyone who has ever stood by our band, bought our records, come and seen us play, or cared and contributed in whatever capacity it may have been.”

Made up of Orlando Weeks, Hugo White, Felix White, Rupert Jarvis and Sam Doyle, the members have no solid plans as to what route they will all be taking next, though they have highlighted their excitement for the future and that they all wish to continue to make music. They have also suggested in their statement that plans for farewell celebration shows will be revealed in the near future.

To celebrate their time together as a band and to mark the end of an era, here is a compilation of our top five favourite songs:
