Spindle Selects: Tracks of the Week

Thursday 15 September 2016
New week and new music. Check out what we think you should be listening to with the best new releases from the last 7 days.

Lady Gaga – Perfect Illusion

Lady Gaga has finally returned. It’s been a minute since we had any new music from the pop royalty, but Gaga is back with new single ‘Perfect Illusion’. It’s a dance-floor ready number… but we have a feeling it may be a grower. Production comes courtesy of Mark Ronson, Bloodpop and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker.

Francis and the Lights – ‘See Her Out’

Spindle favourites Francis and the Lights have shared a new song produced by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and BJ Burton, and it lives up to all its promise. Complete with dramatic, layered synth bleeps and crashes and a vocal that has shades of Phil Collins, it’s not to be missed.

Justice – ‘Randy’

Justice are well and truly B A C K with new track ‘Randy’. Premiered on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, Justice have officially announced their third album ‘Woman’. The album will serve as the follow-up to 2011’s ‘Audio, Video, Disco’, and will be released sometime in November (exact date TBC). Until then, immerse yourself in Justice’s brand of pure joy below.

New Arcades – Where We Were Before

New Arcades are a duo inspired by nostalgic memories of 80’s cinema and vintage synth sounds.Taking those feelings and bringing them into a contemporary production setting, New Arcades craft the perfect soundtrack to living in the moment or reminiscing of good times gone by.  New single ‘Where We Were Before’ is a bold and ambitious new song balanced beautifully with guest vocals from Sarah Bird. This is synth pop perfection, with the perfect retro edge.

Shirazee – Different

He can boast writer credits with some of the finest such as Ty Dolla Sign, Kiesza, Usher and Twista, and now African born artist Shirazee has delivered a standout anthem of his own in the shape of summertime tune ‘Different’. Listen to the Dan E remix of the track and watch the uplifting video as Shirazee takes us on a journey and dances his way through 13 different countries in under 3 minutes. The secret to the video? Shirazee shot it himself, on an iPhone 6, in under 31 days. We think Shirazee’s debut effort is pretty cool and a rich tapestry to show how he has spent the last few years travelling through Ghana, Paris, London & LA  developing his own unique sound.

LOOP – Losing My Mind

Losing My mind is the first single from LOOP’s upcoming EP, due for release start of 2017. The artist is creating an incredible network of collaborators including established producers Ben Pearce, Benj Miller, Brunelle and Portuguese production duo, Insical. Losing My Mind is a spectacular infusion of enchanting and soulful vocals with vibrant synth and powerful instrumental elements. LOOP has been honing her craft for years and Losing My Mind shows that her hard work has certainly paid off.

Leon Else – Black Car

Edgy and urgent, “Black Car,” reveals the British singer, songwriter, musician, and dancer’s artistic complexity and vast musical palette (among his inspirations: David Bowie, Prince, Queen). Else stars in the video with actress/model Suki Waterhouse. Following a succession of song releases online, the backing of Radio 1’s BBC Introducing system in the UK, and a host of front row invites from the fashion world, Else was signed to What Are We Doing/ Interscope Records to work on his full-length debut.

Ady Suleiman –  Wait For You
Ady’s back with his soulful second single ‘Wait For You’, which comes before he embarks on his UK headline tour this October. The track speaks of love and longing that gets you in your feelings, but in a good way. The official video is directed by Calmatic and Director X (Drake, Rihanna, Zayn) which is an added bonus!

Kodie Shane Ft Lil Uzi & il Yachty – Hold Up
‘First lady’ of Lil Yachty’s Sailing Team, Kodie Shane realises ‘bubblegum trap’ track ‘Hold Up’ with both Lil Yachty and Lil Uzi Vert featuring. They may be fairly new to the hip-hop game and have seen a lot of criticism come their way, however, you can’t deny that they have been making big waves in the scene.

Jack Garratt Ft Lil Simz – Far Cry
This rework of ‘Far Cry’ which features Lil Simz brings something extra special to an already amazing track. It’s refreshing to hear these two talented UK artists collaborate, with this being their first, let’s hope for more in the near future.
