Spindle Selects: Tracks of the Week

Thursday 29 September 2016

All the new sounds from the last 7 days that we insist you get to know.

Tom Zanetti – You Want Me feat. Sadie Ama

Leeds DJ & Producer Tom Zanetti teams ups with r&b sweetheart Sadie Ama who layers her soulful sound to compliment what is becoming Zanetti’s trademark dance floor house sound. ‘You Want Me’ is a notable future house anthem, full of energy and a infectious bassline that cements the up and coming producer as a definite one to watch for Ibiza and beyond for 2017.

Pumarosa – Honey

The band are currently on tour with Glass Animals around the US – with European dates to follow – and have also confirmed details of their own headline shows. The video to ‘Honey’ was inspired by the idea of subverting the triumphant voice of progress – its slogans and its idioms. Text and images from an idealised world are distorted and decontextualised, punctuated with the track’s lyrics and juxtaposed with each other in a chaotic frenzy. We love it.

Aston Merrygold – I Ain’t Missing You

Aston is back and with an almighty bang. We loved ‘Get Stupid‘ but THIS is something else! It’s relevant, it’s fresh and it’s a banger if ever we heard one. Aside from featuring on the recent Throttle track ‘Moneymaker‘ with Lunchmoney Lewis, Aston has been busy preparing his debut solo album. ‘I Ain’t Missing You’ is out now, with a high-energy choreographed video to match.

Alex Clare – Tell Me What You Need

After a brief hiatus, Alex Clare returns with an album that was part-recorded on a narrowboat on the River Lea. The record ‘Tail of Lions’ is a very different record from his two previous examples and is lead by ‘Tell Me What You Need’, a strong, defiant statement of intent which is a positive sign of what’s to come. As well as the new album, Alex has just announced a 2017 UK and European tour which kicks off in Glasgow on January 29th.

Dirty Heads – ‘That’s All I Need’

Californian band Dirty Heads have conquered the US and are set to bring their genre-fused infectious sound global. Summer may seem to be over, but if your suffering from holiday blues, listening to ‘That’s All I Need’ might just what you need.

The Weeknd – ‘Starboy’ Ft Daft Punk

This great collaboration is a taster for whats to come from The Weeknd’s upcoming album which is also called ’Starboy’ which is due for release onNovember 25th. Very much looking forward to hearing the full project!

Mahalia – ‘Silly Girl’

Leicester born Mahalia brings out soulful track ‘Silly Girl’, this is the second track from the singer-songwriter’s latest project ‘Diary Of Me’. She’s set to support Ady Suleiman on tour this October, definitely one to watch!

Warpaint – So Good
It seems ‘Heads Up’, the new album from L.A based, all-female outfit Warpaint, is aptly named. ‘So Good’ is a prime example of their funkier, uptempo approach.

Peter Doherty – I Don’t Love Anyone (But You’re Not Just Anyone)

Libertines frontman Peter Doherty has given us another taste of what’s to come from his new solo album ‘Hamburg Demonstrations’ out in early December. As the title of the track suggests, this one is for the romantics amongst us.

Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam – Sick as a Dog

The album ‘I Had A Dream That You Were Mine’ is what happens when you mix the minds of  former The Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser and former Vampire Weekend keyboard player Rostam Batmanglij. See what you make of the indie veterans’ new brainchild.
