It’s the season for solitary bus journeys and long, existential walks in the park now that Autumn is finally in full swing, and Jake Houlsby is providing us with the perfect soundtrack for it. After the success of his latest release ‘Carousel’, the Newcastle singer and songwriter has announced his brand new single ‘Bloom’ which is out on the 25th November, and we’ve been lucky enough to premiere it.
Jake’s warm, contemplative vocals are met with guitar melodies and an atmospheric climax. It’s not hard to see how his cited influences, Sufjan Stevens and Fleet Foxes, have come to have an effect on his sound as Jake also successfully adopts that same wintery tone to his songwriting as a solo artist. On the track, Jake said: “I started writing the lyrics to ‘Bloom’ a few years ago, on a solitary Boxing Day car journey from Newcastle to Dumfries in Scotland. It suddenly hit me how much my life had changed and how hopeful I was feeling about the future.”
