Pop icon Lady Gaga will join the cast of ‘American Crime Story,’ which will tell the story of the murder of Gianni Versace. ‘American Crime Story’ is a true crime anthology television series that covers some of the most notorious cases in America during the 20th century. This year’s entire first season portrayed the O.J. Simpson case in ‘The People v. O.J. Simpson,’ while 2017 is set to see ‘The Great Deluge’ explore the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The third season, ‘Manhunt,’ will be released in 2018.

Gaga will play the fashion designer’s sister Donatella Versace. The 10 episodes will depict the events that unfolded on 15th July 1997, when Gianni was shot dead outside his Miami Beach mansion by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, who killed five people over three months, and whose motives for murdering the designer have never been uncovered, having committed suicide eight days later. The season will be based on Maureen Orth’s book ‘Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History.’

‘American Crime Story’ producer Ryan Murphy also created the anthology television series ‘American Horror Story,’ with Gaga starring in its fifth season ‘Hotel.’ She recently guest starred in the series’ latest instalment ‘Roanoke.’ Gaga seems a perfect choice to play Donatella, with the pair also being firm friends; Gaga named a song from her album ‘Artpop’ after her, led Versace’s Spring 2014 campaign, and they walked the most recent Met Gala red carpet together.
