Chanel celebrate women in creative industries with ‘The Fifth Sense’

Chanel have collaborated with i-D to launch an online platform that celebrates women working in the creative industries. ‘The Fifth Sense’ features work from, articles about, and interviews with many influential creative women; artists, filmmakers, poets, musicians, photographers, playwrights, entrepreneurs, florists, designers, even chefs.

The platform has also commissioned six projects that are each inspired by a Chanel fragrance. It also hosts films and documentaries about the process behind the work and what went on behind the scenes. The first project was ‘Mirror Maze’ by Es Devlin, who creates sets for high profile pop stars and acts. Her project is an interactive video sculpture that goes hand in hand with an installation she created in September in Peckham, South London. Her project explores the powerful experience of scent.

Fashion photographer Harley Weir has created the most recent project, a series of short films and portraits of creative women. Suitably titled ‘5 Women,’ she travelled to Paris to meet actress Oulaya Amamra; Berlin to photograph artist Christine Sun Kim; Johannesburg, home to dancer Manthe Ribane; met Momo Okabe in Tokyo; and in Los Angeles she captured images of poet Zariya Allen.
