Introducing: Avante Black

Wednesday 16 November 2016

Welcome to your new favourite alt-pop artiste, Avante Black.

Led by Ottilia Zimmerman Kjultsten, the band of four are making serious waves with their debut single ‘Drug Money’. Having caught the eyes and ears of many bloggers online, including Spindle here, they are now rightfully getting attention from the big wigs at Radio 1.

Recently signed to [PIAS] imprint Different Recordings (responsible for Anna Of The North and Kllo among much other greatness) Avante Black’s music already sits comfortably alongside MØ and Lykke Li, but with more of a straight-up pop edge.

‘Drug Money’ is a glorious explosion of melancholy electronics, which sit alongside Ottilia’s addictive, youth-drenched vocal. Production comes courtesy of Luke Smith in London, who’s magic touch has previously extended across records with Foals and Petite Noir, and we just can’t get enough.

Given their status as creators of alternative pop dreaminess, it makes sense that Ottilia is a Swedish native – after all, Scandinavia are responsible for a disproportionate amount of golden pop; think Little Dragon, Röyksopp, Elliphant, Peter Bjorn & John, Tove Lo and Say Lou Lou, alongside the aforementioned Lykke Li and MØ. Needless to say Scandinavia’s talent doesn’t seem to be slowing down, and Avante Black are showing all the early signs of being the next break-through. See for yourself when the band headline London’s Sebright Arms on 16thNovember.
