Each issue of fashion magazine A
Alessandaro Michele, who has been Gucci’s Creative Director since January 2015, curates the latest issue. His chosen theme for the 280 page magazine is ‘Blind for Love,’ words taken from an 18th century manuscript by Fanny de Beauharnais that have previously been featured in Gucci’s designs. The issue consists of fashion shoots, interviews and poems, and features work from the likes of Cindy Sherman, Ryan McGinley, Petra Collins, Gia Coppola, Nan Goldin and Madonna.
Gia Coppola shot a fashion shoot inspired by ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ at Joshua Tree, and styled by her mother Jacqui Getty. The shoot stars Laura Love, Lily Stewart, Augie Calligan and Chuck Grant. Coppola also contributed images that are overlaid with a series of handwritten poems by Rowan Blanchard.
Nan Goldin captured a story entitled ‘High Tea With Oscar Wilde,’ and Ryan McGingley created four double page spreads to represent each of the seasons. Petra Collins travelled to Budapest for her shoot with stylist Zara Mirkin, where she captured members of her extended family wearing Gucci mixed with their own clothes.
Hari Nef is seen in Polaroids by Maripol to accompany an interview with her mother, model Hannelmore Knuts, as well as in an image by Inez and Vinoodh, where she is body painted as a cherub. Madonna’s contribution is a photo by Steven Klein in which she poses with two warriors in Africa.
The magazine will also feature contributions from Annie Leibovitz, Chloë Sevigny, Dakota Johnson, Jared Leto, Tavi Gevinson, and Florence Welch, as well as a grid of 84 portraits of every member of Gucci’s Rome design team, with Michele wanting to celebrate his team. The variety of content will be a fascinating reflection of how Michele draws from a wide range of influences as a designer, and his issue of A Magazine Curated By should be a fantastic insight into his world of fashion.
A Magazine Curated by No.16 will be released on 9th November. You can pre-order it here.
