This is the third time Marc Jacobs has turned to Instagram to seek new talent. The first instance was two years ago, when he used the platform to cast models for his Marc by Marc Jacobs AW14 campaign. Over 70,000 users submitted videos with the hashtag #CastMeMarc, with nine being chosen and photographed by David Sims. He chose the same process for his AW15 campaign the following year.
Recruiting talent from social media is now common practice, with a wealth of creatives building prominent showcases of their work online and many gaining significant followings. Numerous notable brands, agencies, and publications have created social media campaigns to find their next stars.
