BBC Music Presents: Spring King US Tour Diary

  • Words: Spindle

Hailing from Manchester, Spring King are a blend of garage rock and post-punk. Started by vocalist and drummer Tarek Musa, writing songs by himself and recording in his bathroom, the band soon grew to a four piece. They finally released their debut album ‘Tell Me If You Like To’ earlier this year, and we recently caught up with them in New York for an interview, on the first night of their US tour with BBC Music Presents. There’s a raw energy to their music, mixing pop melodies and a high tempo with garage sensibilities of distorted guitars and dark lyrics. Lucky for us, Spring King have shared their best moments of their BBC tour in the States. Check out what they’ve been up to below:

Day 1:

We arrived in New York to play the first show of the BBC Presents tour with Sundara Karma and Izzy Bizu. We went in for a radio interview with Huw Stephens, here’s a pic of us fooling around.

Day 2:

We travelled to Boston today to play at the Brighton Music Hall. We’re travelling in style across the US with guitars on our laps, it’s like back home when we used to travel in my mums car to all the shows!

Day 3:

Tourist 101: Washington, DC. The home of two of our favourite bands, Fugazi and Black Flag.

Day 4:

Repo Records, Philadelphia. We went for a walk down south street and a few of us tried our first Philly Cheesesteaks which were pretty good!

Day 5:

It’s the last day of the tour and we’re in Chicago! James is going record shopping for footwork vinyls, I’m going to grab a falafel before sound check with our driver Oscar and Pete and Andy are gonna find a cocktail. Margaritas preferably.
