Music Video Monday: The Rolling Stones – Ride ‘Em On Down

Kristen Stewart stars in The Rolling Stones’ new video for their cover of Eddie Taylor’s ‘Ride ‘Em On Down,’ the first single from their latest album of covers. Set in what appears to be post-apocalyptic downtown Los Angeles, Stewart joyrides through the abandoned city in a shiny blue Mustang. Carefree, she rocks out to The Rolling Stones, dancing wildly while she smokes, zigzagging the car across the street, leaning out the window, spinning the car through water, and even dodging a stray zebra on her journey.

The video was directed by Francois Rousselet and shot by ‘Drive’ cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel. Watch closely and you’ll see various song lyrics displayed throughout the city, as well as the iconic Rolling Stones tongue logo appearing on billboards. In another reference to the blue version of the logo, which serves as the new album’s cover, Stewart turns her own tongue blue after eating a lollipop.

On Friday The Rolling Stones unveiled their twenty-fifth studio album over a decade after their last release. ‘Blue & Lonesome’ is a collection of blues covers that features, in addition to the single, covers of classic songs such as Willie Dixon’s ‘I Can’t Quit You Baby,’ Buddy Johnson’s ‘Just Your Fool,’ and Little Walter’s ‘I Gotta Go.’ The album took Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Charlie Watts just three days to record in London.
