Marking his first release of the year and his latest since ‘Holy Hell,’ which was shared in response to the US Presidential Elections, Father John Misty has unveiled a video for his new track ‘Pure Comedy.’ The musician debuted the song at a benefit concert in Seattle last month. There are suggestions that the song will be the title track for his new album, which is his third solo album, and will be released on March 31st.

The video was made by Matthew Daniel Siskin and is half animation and half live action, cutting together archive news film, handheld footage, and rather dystopian illustrations. The footage includes images of the new US President Donald Trump, perfectly timed at one point to the lyrics, “Where did they find these goons they elected to rule them? What makes these clowns they idolise so remarkable?” Former President Barack Obama is also included, shown leaving Trump’s inauguration, as is Trump’s opponent from the Presidential Elections Hilary Clinton. Brief paparazzi footage of Kanye West also features.
